COIMBATORE: The farm gate price of broiler in the district is expected to range around Rs. 30 a kg for the next one month as the demand has gone up. The President of the Broiler Co-ordination Committee, R. Lakshmanan, said since April broiler price was around Rs. 30 a kg. Normally, the price dips in June commensurate with the demand. However, this year consumption had remained high and hence the prices were also expected to remain around Rs. 30 a kg for at least one more month. He said that the production cost was Rs. 27 a kg and though there had been an increase in demand, the broiler farmers in the district would not increase the production substantially. This would help retaining the price above the production cost even if the demand came down.
