NEW DELHI, JUNE 23. The Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today issued a "veiled warning" to the Hardship and Anomaly Committee on property tax not to go public with its recommendations. At its meeting held at Town Hall here, the Standing Committee Chairman, Mukesh Goel, specifically asked the Hardship and Anomaly Committee Chairman, K. Dharamrajan, not to hold press conferences without seeking his approval and that of the Leader of House in the MCD, Satbir Singh. Such a direction came after the Councillors including Mr. Singh, the Deputy Chairman, Ashok Jain, and the BJP leader, Vijender Kumar Gupta, alleged that Mr. Dharmarajan had "bypassed" the elected bodies of the MCD. Mr. Goel also asked the party Councillor, Sanjay Puri, a member of the Hardship Committee to avoid a repeat in future. "We are still approving the proposals of the Hardship Committee because these are in the interest of the people. Had it not been the case, we would have rejected its decisions," he said. It is understood that the Delhi Mayor, A. R. Verma, had also objected to the decisions of Mr. Dharmarajan to go public without his approval. "As these are very populist decisions and have been welcomed by the people, the leadership fears that the credit for this would go to Mr. Dharmarajan and Mr. Puri, a junior party Councillor," a member of the Standing Committee close to Mr. Goel said.
