Sprint and Jumps Academy inaugurated

MADURAI, JUNE 23. The much-awaited Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu's Sprint and Jumps Academy was inaugurated by T.K. Rajendran, Inspector General of Police, South Zone, at the MGR Race Course stadium here on Wednesday.

P.W.C. Davidar, Member Secretary, SDAT, who presided over the inauguration, said that the 58 (30 boys, 28 girls) attending the Academy were selected from the 30,000 who came under the World Beaters Talent spotting scheme from the sixth, seventh and eighth standards of schools from all over Tamil Nadu.

The list was first reduced to 6000 after trials held at 28 centres and was shortened to 214.

Of the 214 who attended the camp at Chennai for two weeks, 58 were finally selected. These boys and girls have been provided shoes and kits, and would also be given free boarding and lodging in the camp.
