'Legislators must adhere to laws'

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, JUNE 23 .The Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Charanjit Singh Atwal, today said that legislators as the makers of laws should also be the first to scrupulously follow the laws. This quality should be a legislator's hallmark. Mr. Atwal was delivering the valedictory address at a three-day orientation programme for members of the

Madhya Pradesh Assembly organised jointly by the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training and the State Assembly.

He said that first and foremost the MLAs should demonstrate how law-abiding they are on the floor of the House where their acts of omission and commission, if any, are watched by the people who elect them. Rule of law is the most important attribute that distinguishes democracy from other systems of governance, he said adding "our actions and conduct

should always be in conformity with the rules and procedures which we ourselves have framed for the orderly conduct of the Legislatures.
