10 months to say no!
HYDERABAD,
JUNE 23.
In a glaring illustration of bureaucratic delay, it took almost 10 months for the administration to reject the proposal of the Hyderabad district Collector to procure from Godrej Company the furniture required for 829 government schools in the city.
This was revealed during Question Hour by the School Education Minister, N. Rajyalaxmi, while admitting that Government schools in the city were in "most pitiable condition". Replying to the main question by Malreddy Ranga Reddy (Congress), she said that Rs. 5 crores sanctioned in February 2003 for development of these schools had not been spent. Due to supply of inferior quality furniture by local manufacturers, the Collector had suggested that it be procured from Godrej. It was, however, rejected since procuring from a single company would be a violation of tender rules.
