Weather

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Humidity, which was 54 per cent in the morning, dropped to 37 per cent in the evening.

Price of commodities

The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale markets on Wednesday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - Rs. 51, palmolein oil - Rs. 42, sunflower oil - Rs. 50, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 31-35, tamarind (karipuli variety) - Rs. 40-45, chillies (AC) - Rs. 24-28, chillies (non-AC) - Rs. 14-22, rice (2716) - Rs. 13, rice (superfine) - Rs. 14-15, rice (samba masoori) - Rs. 15-16, black gram - Rs. 19-25, red gram - Rs. 27-31.

Medical insurance

Andhra Bank, in association with United India Insurance Company Ltd, has launched a mediclaim insurance scheme, `AB Arogyadaan,' wherein hospital expenses of the family of the customer would be taken care of. According to the bank's Assistant General Manager, Mathew Joseph, the scheme is aimed at providing medical insurance cover under the floater policy for a family of 1+3, consisting the policy-holder, spouse and two children. He said the premium was small and would be eligible for income tax relief.

Auction of seized lorry

The Thotlavalluru police have issued an auction notice for a lorry (MP-06 2676) carrying non-duty paid liquor seized during the prohibition in 1996. Those arrested had obtained bail and have not been attending court proceedings ever since. Efforts to trace the owner and driver of the vehicle in Madhya Pradesh were in vain. Owners of the vehicle were asked to contact the Thotlavallur Police within 15 days of the notice being issued.
