Businessman's abducted son rescued from Patel Nagar

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JUNE 23. A 19-year-old son of a Karol Bagh businessman, who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs. 10 lakhs on June 19 and was being kept on sedatives for the past four days in a Patel Nagar house, was rescued from the clutches of the kidnappers by the Central Delhi police today. Three persons have been arrested in this connection, while a hunt has been launched for the fourth accused.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi), M.M. Oberoi, the incident occurred when Mohit, son of Vinod Kapoor, who is into embroidery business, went out on June 19 afternoon telling his mother that he had some work at Patel Nagar.

When he did not return till late in the evening, his relatives tried to contact him on his mobile phone but it was switched off. In the meantime, his parents received a call claiming that Mohit had been kidnapped. The kidnappers threatened to chop him to death if they did not pay Rs. 10 lakhs for his release.

To make them realise that Mohit was indeed in their captivity, the culprits told his parents that his motorcycle was parked near Kakraula More at Uttam Nagar. The motorcycle was recovered from there, after which Mohit's parents reported the matter to the police. Investigations revealed that one Vineet Bajaj, a native of Patna, who had been working here in a Janakpuri call-centre, was involved in the kidnapping.

Accordingly, the police detained Vineet. During interrogation, he broke down and confessed to having kidnapped Mohit along with Nasir, Ram Sagar and Hussain, all from Bihar, who have an apparel-fabricating unit here. Vineet disclosed that around two months ago, he along with the other three had sold stitching machines to Mohit. Lured by the prospect of getting a good ransom, Vineet conspired with the other three to kidnap him.

On June 19, they contacted Mohit and asked him to come to Patel Nagar, as they wanted to sell some old stitching machines. When Mohit reached there, they served him cold drinks laced with sedatives and took him to a house where they kept injecting sedatives to keep him asleep.

At Vineet's instance, the police rescued Mohit and arrested the other two accused, Ram Sagar and Hussain. They disclosed that Nasir had gone to Samastipur in Bihar where, as they had decided, he had to receive the ransom amount. A team has been sent to Bihar to arrest him. Meanwhile, Mohit was taken to a hospital.
