Businessman, wife robbed of cash, gold ornaments

BANGALORE, JUNE 23. Two robbers threatened a businessman and his wife with a revolver and took away their cash and gold ornaments in the Hoskote police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday night.

The police said Shambu Kumar of Maragondanhalli on Ananthapura Road, who is running a transport business, had come to the city along with his wife for shopping. Around 8 p.m., they returned home and parked their car in front of their house. When the couple got out of the car, two youths pointed a revolver at Mr. Kumar and took away Rs. 11,700 in cash and a gold chain from him. They robbed his wife of a pair of gold bangles, ear studs and a chain, the police said.

The robbers, aged around 25, spoke Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. The Hoskote police have registered a case.

Credit card racket busted:The City Crime Branch (CCB) staff on Tuesday arrested three persons who had allegedly obtained credit cards by producing forged documents and cheated banks of Rs. 9 lakh.

The police said the accused had allegedly obtained details of employees working in software companies and created fake documents in their names. They presented the documents to banks and got credit cards.

The accused allegedly cheated HSBC, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, ABN Amro, and Standard Chartered. The names of the arrested were given as Chirag Batra (27) and Anand Zope (26) of South End Road, Jayanagar, and Naveen Kumar (22) of Anandnagar in R.T. Nagar.

Arrested: In another case, the Commercial Street police have arrested M. Bhaskar (26) of Cubbonpet who allegedly cheated HDFC Bank, ABN Amro, Standard Chartered, HSBC, and ICICI Bank of Rs. 17 lakh.

Posing as an employee of a leading private firm, Bhaskar allegedly took loans from these banks by producing fake documents, the police said. He was arrested when he was allegedly trying to take a loan of Rs. 5 lakh from UTI Bank. The police have seized a fake identity card, salary slips, and a computer from the accused.

Cheating charge: The Sadashivanagar police have arrested three persons who allegedly tried to cheat R. Jagganath of Rajanukunte by promising to sell to him gold biscuits at a low rate.

The police gave the names of the arrested as Ravi Naik (26), Jagadish Naik (24) and Kassa Naik (26) of Hoovinahadagali in Bellary district. The accused allegedly told Jagganath that they had got 5 kg of gold which was buried in a farm. Later, they allegedly tried to cheat Jagganath by giving him fake gold biscuits for Rs. 3 lakh, the police said.

Goods recovered: The Koramangala police on Monday arrested three persons and recovered from them electronic goods and pressure cookers, worth Rs. 50,000 in all.

The names of those arrested were given as John alias Kennedy (30), Joy alias Manja (24) and Ravi (22). They were allegedly involved in a house break-in and theft case in the Madivala police station limits, the police said.

Gambling case: The CCB staff on Tuesday arrested four persons who were allegedly indulging in "matka" gambling on Sadarpatrappa Road in the Ulsoor Gate police station limits. The police seized Rs. 3,000 in cash from them.
