ANANTAPUR, JUNE 24. The village secretaries of Rapthadu mandal in the district went on an indefinite mass leave from today, in protest against the alleged manhandling of the village secretary of Rapthadu by the husband of the mandal parishad president and his followers last night. According to the information reaching here, Balaramudu, the husband of Mandal Parishad President, Chennamma (Congress), had summoned the village secretary, V. Adinarayana, and the Revenue Inspector, Madhusudhan Rao, to his residence last night and had allegedly asked them to issue seed groundnut coupons without passbooks. But, the village secretary, who requires to certify the passbook for taking the coupon, refused to follow the MPP's husband saying that it was not possible and issuance of coupons violating rules would even lead to loss of his job. Angered by his reply the MPP's husband and his follower, P. Narayana, had allegedly slapped the village secretary repeatedly and torn his shirt. The village secretary lodged a complaint with the police. The MPP's husband and his followers were reported to be absconding. All the village secretaries in the mandal boycotted duties from today in protest against the Congress leader's manhandling of their colleague. It is also learnt that the MPP's husband had already taken 250 bags of seed groundnut without having passbooks by using his political clout.
