HYDERABAD, JUNE 24. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi witnessed a heavy influx of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) cadre from Telangana districts into its fold at a meeting organised by it here today. The TDP migration covered grassroots-level workers such as sarpanches, MPTC and ZPTC members and mandal party presidents and some corporators of Warangal town. Prominent among the leaders to join the TRS included former Ministers M. Rajaiah, A. Chandulal, G. Rajesham Goud, Nimma Raji Reddy and K. Pushpaleela former MLAs K. Madhusudhan Rao (Kollapur), D. Ramesh Babu (Warangal) and B. Rajaiah (Parkal) and the former IGP, P. Chandrasekhar Reddy, who took voluntary retirement to contest the Miryalguda Assembly seat on the TDP ticket. Addressing the meeting, the TRS president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, said the party was not against the State Government taking up the Pulichintala project on the Krishna for the benefit of coastal districts if the irrigation requirements of Mahabubnagar district were met. Mr. Rao had threatened in his pre-election speeches that blood would flow if the project was taken up. "What I had said on Pulichintala before elections, I continue to repeat the same words," he insisted. This week's budget earmarked Rs. 35 crores for the project. The TRS chief said the Telangana State would be a reality in nine months. The Home Ministry was seized of the matter. The AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had assured him that the Centre would concede the demand. Mr. Rao said the foundation stone for the party headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, would be laid in the city shortly.
