VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 24. Two persons were burnt alive while one suffered grievous injuries when a hay-laden lorry caught fire after running into an electric pole on the Vuyyuru by-pass road in the early of Thursday. The lorry owner, K. Anaparaju, who was driving, was charred to death in the cabin of the lorry. The cleaner, G. Peddiraju, 55, succumbed to burns a few minutes after the accident. Yerrababu, another person in the lorry was admitted to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital for treatment. The lorry was on its way from Konukolu village of Mandavalli mandal in Krishna district to Sathenapalli in Guntur district. The vehicle went out of control and hit an electric pole on the road margin. The haystacks in the lorry caught fire from the power lines.
Boy dies in fire mishap
TENALI (Guntur Dt.): A 16-year-old polio-afflicted boy was charred in a fire mishap in Yedlalingaiah Nagar in the town on Thursday morning. About 150 houses were gutted in the fire. The physically challenged boy, A. Durga Rao, son of a casual labourer, Sri Lakshmi, was burnt alive as none noticed him and he could not stir out of the cot he was sleeping on. The District Collector, K. Ramakrishna Rao, and the Superintendent of Police, Ravi Shankar Ayyannar, visited the site and assured all possible help from the Government to the victims. In another fire mishap at Uppallapadu village in Pedakakani mandal in the district, 25 houses were destroyed. Six buffaloes also perished in the blaze.
