Navpreet, Shoba strike gold

SONGKHLA, JUNE 23. Navpreet Singh with a throw of 18.47 metres and J.J. Shoba with a leap of 6.50 metres won the men's shot put and women's long jump respectively in the first leg of third annual Asian Grand Prix Series here on Wednesday.

The Indian quartet in both the men's and women's 4 x 400 metres relay also struck gold, while P. Anil Kumar (men's 200m), P. Shankar (men's 400m), S. Geeta (women's 400m) and Neelam J. Singh (women's discus) took silver.

A total of around 160 athletes are taking part in the three meets of the Grand Prix series.

The remaining competitions will be held in Colombo on June 27 and in Manila on July 1.

It was originally planned to have four meets in the series as in the previous two years, but Hyderabad had to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances.
