Differences emerge over `Addapallakki' mahotsava

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELLARY, JUNE 24. Tension gripped Yemmiganur village in Bellary taluk today over difference of opinion between two groups over holding the "Addapallakki" mahotsava. The Kurgodu Police had to resort to mild lathicharge.

According to reports, Mahesh Gouda, a landlord, had planned to hold the "Addapallakki" of Rambhapuri Swamiji of Balehonnur Math, on the occasion of a marriage in his family.

The villagers opposed this and said that the festival should not be clubbed with the marriage and stresses that it should be held separately. A few villagers reportedly assaulted a person, who was engaged to tie a banner for the proposed "Addapallakki" mahotsava.

P.G. Suddi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bellary (Rural), rushed to the village and prevented the situation from going out of control.

At the peace committee meeting organised by the police, it was agreed that the proposed festival should be postponed.

Hemant Nimbalkar, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that tension had been diffused and situation was under control.
