Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, JUNE 24. The Uttaranchal Chief Minister, Narain Dutt Tiwari, has urged the power sector players to ensure time-bound and high quality works to achieve excellence in the field. Speaking at a function held here for signing an agreement between the National Thermal Power Corporation and the State Government for establishment of two run-of-the-river power projects, Mr Tiwari said the emphasis was on run-of-the-river schemes as they did not displace people. Assuring him of the Corporation's best efforts, the NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, C. P. Jain, said both the projects would be completed on time. The 600-MW Loharinag-Pala hydro project is a run-of-the-river scheme on the Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi district. It will have four units of 150 MW each. When complete, it will generate 1939 million units per year at 90 per cent dependability, it was stated. The 520-MW Tapovan-Vishnugad project is also a run-of-the-river scheme across the Dhauliganga in the Alaknanda valley in Chamoli district. When complete, it will generate 1586 million units of power every year. Uttaranchal will get 12 per cent of the power generated free of cost from both the projects.
