Gangsters nabbed

NEW DELHI, JUNE 24. Two alleged hitmen of dreaded gangster Krishan Pehalwan were arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police from Rohini in North-West Delhi on Tuesday. Two country-made firearms and live cartridges were allegedly recovered from their possession.

It is learnt that during interrogation, Krishan Pehalwan, who was brought to Delhi from Rohtak jail by the Special Cell for interrogation relating to an extortion case, disclosed that two of his accomplices, Jitender and Kaptan Singh, would come to Rohini. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and arrested the duo.

During interrogation, Jitender disclosed that he was initiated into the world of crime in 1999 and was involved in cases of dacoity and murder. In August 1999, he and his accomplices tried to target a van carrying the collections of the Delhi Jal Board and shot dead its driver. The same day they killed Swarn Singh at Rohtak because of personal enmity. He also murdered Jai Singh of Mandothi after which he was arrested and sent to Rohtak Jail where he came in contact with Krishan Pehalwan in 2003.

According to the police, Kaptan disclosed that he was involved in cases of murder, robbery and car thefts in Delhi and Haryana.

Two more members of Krishan Pehalwan gang were arrested by the Special Cell from Nangloi in West Delhi a few days ago. The duo had been directed to eliminate some members of the rival Balraj gang.The police said Krishan, who was brought to the Capital for interrogation, had been arrested for trying to extort Rs. 1.5 crore from a Delhi-based businessman for settlement of a property dispute. Three persons were earlier arrested in the same case.
