BANGALORE, JUNE 25. Burglars broke into a hotel room, where two doctors from Bangladesh were staying, and took away $ 640 and Rs. 6,000 in cash on Wednesday. According to a complaint lodged by Justin Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the National Tuberculosis Institute, two doctors from Bangladesh, Tameed and Zia-ul-Tared, had come here to attend a workshop. They were staying in a hotel in the High Grounds police station limits. On Wednesday, when they were away, burglars entered their room by breaking open the windowpanes and took away the money, Mr. Joseph said. The High Grounds police have registered a case. In another case, burglars took away 1.50 lakh Japanese yen from the flat occupied by Masemitsu Yamahuchi, General Manager of Toyota Kirloskar at Bidadi in the Cubbon Park police station limits on Wednesday. The police said the burglars entered Mr. Yamahuchi's flat in an apartment complex on St. Mark's Road by using a fake key. They ransacked the flat and took cash from an almirah. The Cubbon Park police have registered a case.
Man robbed: Two persons who came in an autorickshaw waylaid a man and robbed him of a gold chain on MES Road in the RMC Yard police station limits around 3 p.m. on Thursday. In a complaint, Manju of Mahalakshmi Layout said the robbers searched his pockets for cash. As they did not find any money, they took the chain. The RMC Yard police have registered a case.
Chain snatched: Two men on a motorcycle snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 from Manjula Shet in the Sanjaynagar police station limits on Wednesday. The police said that the incident occurred at around 8 p.m., when Ms. Shet was returning to her house in KEB Layout. The Sanjaynagar police have registered a case.
Pirated VCDs seized: The City Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday raided two shops at Gupta Market in the Upparpet police station limits and seized about 700 pirated VCDs and MP3s worth Rs. 70,000. The police arrested the proprietors of the shops, Shamil Nambiyar (27) of Ramachandrapuram and Basu (23) of J.C. Road.
Arrested: The Yeshwantpur police on Wednesday arrested Faiyaz alias Dadapeer (44) of Vidyaranyapura and recovered from him gold ornaments, silver articles and a camera, worth Rs. 25,000 in all. The police said Faiyaz was involved in a house break-in and theft case in the Yeshwantpur police station limits. The Madivala police have arrested three persons from Pune on charges of robbery and recovered from them Rs. 16,500 in cash. The accused allegedly robbed Sampangiramaiah of Rs. 39,000 when he had gone to a bank in BTM Layout on June 11 to deposit the money. The names of those arrested were given as Shameer Shabbir Ali Irani (22), Ashiq Hussain Irani (35) and Zakir Apsar Ali Irani (27).
Gambling case: The CCB raided a lottery shop at Manjunathnagar in the Basaveshwaranagar police station limits on Wednesday and arrested seven persons who were allegedly indulging in "matka" gambling. The police seized Rs. 5,000 from them.
Murder charge: The CCB have arrested Vijay Kumar, alias Kavale, and four others, who were wanted in several criminal cases reported from the Madiwala and Adugodi police station limits. Vijay Kumar, according to the police, was facing charges of extortion and murder. The CCB also confiscated a pistol and other lethal weapons from the accused.
