Hat-trick of a different kind for Balaji

CHENNAI, JUNE 26. Laxmipathi Balaji was adjudged the State Cricketer of the Year for the third season on the trot. The Test speedster was presented the Bishnuram Medhi Trophy by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, P.S. Ramamohan Rao, at the 74th annual day function of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association which was held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday.

In his welcome address, the TNCA President, N. Srinivasan, described the year that went by as, "eventful, though not fully satisfying, in that we reached the final for a second time but failed to win it yet again. I firmly believe that we will win it in the coming year."

Mr. Rao spoke about Balaji's inspired performances on the tour of Pakistan.

"I understand that he is becoming quite a sensation off the field too."

Mr. C.R. Vijayaraghavan, Secretary, presented the annual report while Mr. K.S. Viswanathan, Assistant Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.

The Annual General Body Meeting of the TNCA will be held on Sunday.
