CUDDAPAH, JUNE 26. Congress leader, Ahmed Hussain, on Saturday called for a movement for safeguarding the rights of Rayalaseema region. Addressing a press conference at Proddatur, he lamented the oft-repeated statements of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders that the region would be granted statehood within the next two months. The Rayalaseema region was drought-prone and remained backward, due to prolonged neglect by successive Governments. Stating that the importance being given to Telangana region, although the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, belonged to Rayalaseema, he said prominent leaders backing the Telangana demand was putting the people of Rayalaseema in a quandary. He called upon intellectuals, youth and all sections to ponder over the future of Rayalaseema in the wake of the developments.
