NEW DELHI, JUNE 26. The Union Government has constituted a seven-member committee to prepare a comprehensive Master Plan to make the Capital slum-free in the next five years. The Committee, which will submit its report within two weeks, will prepare the Master Plan that will include a road map and modalities for relocation and rehabilitation of slum-dwellers in terms of existing policy of the Delhi Government. The Committee consists of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice-Chairman, Delhi's Principal Secretary (Urban Development), the Municipal Commissioner, MCD's Additional Commissioner (Slums), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairperson and the Joint Secretary in the Union Urban Development Ministry. DDA's Commissioner (Planning) will be its the Member Secretary, said an official release. The Committee will also explore the possibility of in-situ regularisation where possible and permissible, keeping in view the land use and environmental parameters. It will also consider and recommend alternate models for slum relocation including multi-storey tenements, and resettlement through co-operative societies of slum-dwellers. It will also propose provision of physical and social infrastructure in a coordinated and time-bound manner, make strategies to prevent encroachment on government land and growth of new slums. It will also increase the accountability of the officers for prevention of encroachment on public lands and appropriate development of vacated lands.
