Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to the report, "President seized of Dhananjoy matter" (June 26). I fail to understand why rights groups are clamouring for mercy for a man who has been convicted for rape and murder. The groups should remember that victims (in this case the young girl's family) are entitled to justice. There are other, more genuine cases where these groups can make a difference. N.M. Chandrachud, Hyderabad * * * Sir, Capital punishment is legitimate in the case of such brutal acts as rape and murder. Such inhuman acts can be minimised only if there is a deterrent. Nishant Gupta, New Delhi
