Tourism promotion to get boost
The Tourism Secretary, S.P. Singh, signed the agreement with Arup Sen, Director, Cox & Kings, last week. The private travel agency personnel had already completed a familiarisation trip touring different tourist sports in the twin cities, Visakhapatnam, Simhachalam and other areas. The objective was to explore the possibilities of formulating tourism packages under the `Bharat Dekho' campaign for individuals and groups. Tours to Tirupati, Puttaparthi and Hyderabad were listed on the company's website, according to a press release.
CPI(M)'s plea on coop. societies
B.V. Raghavulu, secretary of the party's State unit, in a letter to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said there were reports that officials planned to wind up 2,600 cooperative societies and remove their employees from service. He pointed out that this proposal was unwarranted in view of the Government's declared intent to give a boost to the agriculture sector. The CPI (M) leader recalled that the TDP Government had removed from service 3,000 employees who had been working in the societies since 1995 by issuing an ordinance. He said a bill to replace the ordinance was to be tabled in the Assembly on June 22.
Medical employees' protest
In a statement here on Sunday, the president, G. Ramachander, and the general secretary, Rajmallaiah, registered their protest against the posting and demanded that a medical person of stature be promoted to the post of Commissioner. They also wanted the Government to reverse its decision on the appointment of a doctor from Auranagabad as head of the MNJ Institute of Oncology and Cancer Research Institute as it would deny an opportunity to a qualified doctor from the State.
Narendra worships at Kanaka Durga temple
The Union Minister of State for Rural Development, A. Narendra, and his wife coming out of the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada after having a darshan on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, who met him at the temple, Mr. Narendra said that the TRS would strive to ensure water releases to all regions in the State, including the Krishna delta. On the criticism by the Telangana Congress leaders over the importance being given to the TRS, he advised them to approach their party high command to give vent to their feelings instead of raising the issue here. "We are confident that the Congress high command will surely back the TRS and not go by the words of their party leaders,'' Mr. Narendra said.
Farm workers to meet on July 8
Paturu Ramayya, State president and MLA, and B. Venkat, general secretary, in a statement here on Sunday, said although the Government had vowed its commitment to rural development there was no mention of land distribution in the budget. They stated that ample land was available for public distribution. All that was required was commitment to take it up. The leaders called upon the Government to raise its own resources instead of depending on the World Bank for funds.
Open varsity MBA admissions
Application forms can be obtained between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the university headquarters at Jubilee Hills or from the university study centres on all working days through a demand draft for Rs. 200 drawn in favour of the Registrar, BRAOU, payable at Hyderabad. In the twin cities, the MBA programme is being offered at Pragathi Mahavidyalaya Degree College, Hanumantekdi, Silver Jubilee Arts and Science College, Habsiguda and SP College, Padmaraonagar, Secunderabad.
Last date extended
The university offers various courses including travel and tourism, journalism, kuchipudi and theatre arts at its Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Srisailam, Kuchipudi and Warangal campuses, according to a press release.
Coal miner dies in mishap
According to information, Ingu Hanmanthu (40), a coal filler, died on the spot while Tekula Ashalu and Ramtenki Rajam sustained injuries in the mishap which occurred in the wee hours. The three were a part of the 10-member team which went inside the 2A seam at 17 level on Saturday night to mine the amorphous coal. The roof caved in reportedly due to a blast above the mine. Hanumanthu belongs to Bhagatsinghnagar of Ramakrishnapur. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. The injured were admitted to Ramakrishnapur area hospital.
Makeshift helipad ready
The collector, Ajay Jain, visited the place on Sunday evening and supervised the arrangements. The Superintendent of Police, V.R.K. Mohan Rao, reviewed the security arrangements. The PM's visit is likely to be confirmed tomorrow.
Entrance test conducted
In all, 102 students appeared for the test on the advice of the Collector and the PD, DRDA. The selected students will have free education and accommodation up to Intermediate.
V-C's effigy burnt
The SFI district secretary, T. Sunil, alleged that cancellation of the degree supplementary exams would cause loss to the students.
