NEW DELHI, JUNE 27. Concerned over the spread of naxalism, the Union Home Ministry has convened a meeting of the State Chief Secretaries and Directors-General of Police on July 2 here.

The meet, to be addressed by the Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, will focus on the growing activities of left-wing extremists and the strategies to be evolved to tackle the menace, Ministry sources said.

The extremists, who are said to have established links with Maoists in Nepal, are operating in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and West Bengal, the sources added.
