Student unions flay police lathicharge

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JUNE 27. Student organisations have reacted strongly to the lathicharge on students of Osmania University on Saturday when they were demonstrating at the Vice-Chancellor's lodge.

The Students Federation of India burnt an effigy of the Vice-chancellor, J. Ananthaswamy, at Narayanguda crossroads protesting against the lathicharge. The SFI said the VC and the Registrar should be recalled for their failure to provide better facilities to students.

The Progressive Democratic Students Union demanded an enquiry into the alleged misuse of funds in electricity repairs and the revaluation scam. It said poor quality of food in the mess was affecting students' health. The union warned it would launch a State-wide agitation demanding the recall of the Vice-Chancellor. The All-India Students Federation sought the suspension of the ACP and the CI concerned for beating up students. The AISF held the VC responsible for the bad conditions of the hostels and blamed him for trying to throw out students from the hostels.
