Sir, Dhananjoy Chatterjee should be given capital punishment. I certainly have no sympathy for a man who raped and killed a 14-year-old. Crimes against women are on the increase and they no longer feel safe. Clemency for Dhananjoy will send wrong signals.

Sir, Already, our legal system is slow in delivering justice and the conviction rate in crimes against women is dismal. A lenient view in the case will contribute to the existing disorder in society.

Sir, The fact that some countries have done away with the death penalty is no reason to show leniency or grant Dhananjoy clemency.
