Dhananjoy's appeal

Sir, — Dhananjoy Chatterjee should be given capital punishment. I certainly have no sympathy for a man who raped and killed a 14-year-old. Crimes against women are on the increase and they no longer feel safe. Clemency for Dhananjoy will send wrong signals.

Sir, — Already, our legal system is slow in delivering justice and the conviction rate in crimes against women is dismal. A lenient view in the case will contribute to the existing disorder in society.

Sir, — The fact that some countries have done away with the death penalty is no reason to show leniency or grant Dhananjoy clemency.
