Aditi prevails over Sharada

BANGALORE, JUNE 28. It as another hectic day at the Union Bank all India juniors ranking badminton championship at the Raheja— KBA Stadium here today as the crowded card packed as many as 270 matches and the last 16 stage was reached in most sections. In the girls' under-19 singles, Aditi Mutatkar of Maharashtra, and Saina Nehwal of Andhra Pradesh, the top juniors in the country made the last eight round with convincing wins.

Aditi,prevailed over Sharda of Andhra. She, after dropping the first game at 7-11, trailed 2-4 in the second game, before conceding the game due to a cramp. Saina Nehwal, accounted for Sampada of Maharashtra at 11-7, 11-0. Another easy winner was the fourth seed, Sayali Gokhale of Maharashtra, who beat Soumya (AP) 11-6, 11-0.

In the boys' under-19 section, fourth seeded Jishnu Sanyal of Maharashtra was stretched a bit by his teammate Nitesh Joshi. However, he won at 15-10, 15-2. But the best tie in the boys' section was the one between local Anup Kiran and Suranjan of Assam in the boys' under-16 singles. The hard-hitting Anup kept pace with his wily rival right through match. He took the first game on extra point at 17-15, before the Assamese lad seized the initiative in the second game and ran up an early lead took it at 15-9. The decider was well fought, and Suranjan won at 15-12 and entered the quarter-finals.
