Friends Club wins crown

HYDERABAD, JUNE 28 . Friends Club clinched the junior state hockey championship crown, defeating Deccan Blues 4-2 in the final here on Monday, after the teams were tied 2-2 at half-time.

A brace by Sanjiv Kumar (seventh and 12 minutes) for Friends was equalised by Sharat Reddy (18th) and Inderjit Singh, who converted a penalty corner in the 25th. After resumption, R. Vikram sounded the boards in the 45th and 49th minutes.

In the A-1 division league, A.C. Guards got a walkover when AP Police failed to turn up. In Tuesday's action, AGAP faces AOC at the Astroturf stadium, Begumpet at 4 p.m.
