4 held in murder case

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JUNE 28. Three persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly killing a man whose body was found at Inderpuri in South-West Delhi on June 15.

According to the police, a body was found in a gunny bag at village Dasghara in Inderpuri on June 15. After four days, the police managed to identify the body as that of Radhey Gupta, a resident of Dabri in South-West Delhi. It came to light that Radhey had gone missing from his house since June 14 evening and a missing report was lodged at Dabri police station the next day.

During investigation, the police suspected the involvement of Ram Babu, a tenant in the house of Radhey. The police managed to arrest Ram Babu on June 27 when he came to meet a friend in Inderpuri. At his instance, the police arrested Shakuntala and another alleged accomplice, Ulhas. The younger brother of Shakuntala, Sanjay, who is also an accused in the case, is absconding.

Interrogation revealed that Shakuntala had developed illicit relationship with Ram Babu. The spouses of both the accused had died and they had decided to marry. But they suspected that Radhey would be an impediment. Shakuntala then paid Rs. 6,000 in advance to Ram Babu to eliminate him.

As per plan, Shakuntala left for her native village in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, so that her involvement was not suspected. Ram Babu then hired a room for Rs. 400 a month in Dabri and took Radhey there a couple of times. On June 13 night, Ram Babu requested Radhey to drop him to the railway station the next day as he was going to his native village. He agreed.

The next day, Radhey left home to drop Ram Babu at the station. But Ram Babu took him to the rented room where Ulhas and Sanjay were already present. He told Radhey he had postponed his departure and that he was in a mood to "enjoy". Radhey too joined them and after a while went to sleep. Around 3 a.m., the trio strangulated him. His body was stuffed in a gunny bag, which the trio had already bought for the purpose.

Early in the morning, Sanjay and Ulhas hired an autorickshaw and put the body in the vehicle on the pretext that they were shifting. Radhey's body was then dumped near village Dasghara.

Shakuntala told the police that after the death of her husband in a road accident sometime ago, Radhey had begun treating her rudely. In the meantime, she developed relationship with Ram Babu and promised to marry him if he helped her to get rid of Radhey to which Ram Babu agreed. Further investigations in the case are on.
