Links found with busted gang

By Devesh K. Pandey

NEW DELHI, JUNE 28. The latest case of recruitments in the Army and the para-military forces on the basis of forged documents unearthed by the South-West Delhi police on June 25 has links with a similar racket run by a former Army personnel from Palam Colony here detected last year.

The former Army personnel and his accomplices, including a Deputy Director with the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, were arrested in that case.

It is learnt that during interrogation, the main accused, Vijay, revealed that he was related to Jitender, one of the main accomplices of the former Army Medical Corps Naik, Ram Sewak, who was arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi in October last.

Vijay disclosed that he had learnt the tricks of the trade from his real cousin, Jitender, who was allegedly an expert at forging documents. Jitender worked for Ram Sewak, who had been running the Bajaj Physical Institute at Palam Colony for the past over four years purportedly to train those desirous of joining the Army and para-military forces. However, in the garb of the Institute, he was allegedly providing forged documents to the candidates who were lured by his contacts operating in different States.

Ram Sewak charged Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 60,000 for a confirmed job. After he was arrested in August last, he disclosed that all the documents recovered from him had been forged by his accomplice Jitender, who was a tout in the IP Estate Deputy Commissioner office.

At Ram Sewak's instance, the police arrested Jitender and on his disclosure arrested Suresh Chandra, a Deputy Director in the Department of Sugar and Edible Oils having its office at Krishi Bhavan.

A key link in the racket, Jitender revealed that he had good contacts with officials in the Army training centres from whom he would get secret verification forms of candidates. By using fake stamps of the Delhi police officers, he helped Ram Sewak in filing false statements of verification claiming that the candidates were genuine. For this, he also used forged stamps of other gazetted officers.

The police had found out that Jitender had links with the staff members of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) offices at Shastri Park, Rampura, Najafgarh, Kanjhwala, Nandnagri, Saket and Mehrauli.

Vijay has also revealed that he had contacts with at least three staff members of the Rampura SDM office, from whom he procured secret forms sent by the Army for verification of the candidates' antecedents. The suspected staff members are absconding.

Another link between the two gangs was established after Vijay's accomplice, Rattan Singh, revealed that before joining him, he used to work for Ram Sewak.

A resident of Haryana, Rattan revealed that he joined Vijay's gang after Ram Sewak and his close accomplices were arrested.
