Washington: Canada's Liberal Party has been stripped of its Parliamentary majority even while not being shown the door in terms of governance. It lost more than 30 seats in the House of Commons bringing to an end an 11-year reign. It will be forming the first minority government in 25 years; and in all probability will be teaming up with the New Democrats, the political left, that has won 19 seats in the elections on Monday. It will be an informal governing coalition. Significantly, the separatist Bloc Quebecois has come away stronger with 54 seats throwing up the question if it is indeed time for the next referendum in the province. The separatist Party of Quebec gained 21 seats. And the Conservatives, who tried to make a dent in the Liberals' vote by capitalising on financial scandals, won only 99 seats.
