A specialist's advice to Zaheer

CHENNAI, JUNE 29. A slight modification to his action could be the answer to Zaheer Khan's recurrent hamstring injury. According to Dennis Lillee and David John, the bio-mechanics expert from Western Australia, who is on a visit to the MRF Pace Foundation, the left-armer from Baroda needs to raise his front arm much higher, which, in turn, would reduce the strain he puts on his hamstring and back.

"Zaheer was generating speed by jumping high and transferring the force to his front leg. We worked on the modification the last two days, and he feels comfortable with it," said John on Tuesday.

Khan did not comment, saying he would speak during the Asia Cup probables camp, to be held at the Chidambaram Stadium from July 3 to 8.

Meanwhile, T.A. Sekar, head coach of the Foundation, said two of the trainees, Mumbai's Munaf Patel and Raghavendra Rao from Karnataka, were to be sent to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for three days from July 13, where they would undergo a series of tests. "It is basically to chart a fitness programme for the two. They are promising material," he said.
