Small spinners seek tax reduction
COIMBATORE: The South India Small Spinners Association has appealed to the State Government to bring down the sales tax on cone yarn from 4 per cent to 2 per cent. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, J. Jayalalitha, the SISSPA President, R. Chinniyan, also pleaded that the sales tax on hank yarn, which was used by handloom weavers, should be withdrawn. These measures would help the industry from further sickness. Further, the power tariff for textile mills supplying yarn to handloom, powerloom and knitwear units should be brought down, he added.
