Markus Merk to handle final
LISBON,
JUNE 29.
German referee Markus Merk will take charge of Sunday's Euro 2004 final.
UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, named the 42-year-old dentist on Monday for the game, which will be staged at Lisbon's Stadium of Light.
He refereed France's 2-1 victory over England in Group A and the 2-2 draw between Sweden and Denmark in Group C.
UEFA also named Anders Frisk of Sweden for Wednesday's first semifinal between Portugal and the Netherlands.
Italian Pierluigi Collina, in his last major tournament before retirement, will run Thursday's semifinal between Greece and the Czech Republic. AP
