NEW DELHI, JUNE 29. The much awaited monsoon could arrive in Delhi and other parts of North India by July 4. This was announced by the India Meteorological Department here today. Speaking to reporters, IMD Director-General S.K. Srivastav said conditions were becoming favourable for the revival of the monsoon, which had remained dormant after reaching western Uttar Pradesh about 10 days ago. A low-pressure area is forming at the head of the Bay of Bengal and as it moves towards the eastern coast, it would reactivate the monsoon. So far, the monsoon across the country had been quite good. As of June 23, the country as a whole had received excess rainfall to the extent of 21 per cent over and above the long period average. Consequently, even with the current lull, the rainfall for June could end up as excess, about 10 per cent above the LPA. Only three regions - Telangana, Rayalaseema and Marathwada -- have had deficient rainfall this year and there too the situation was expected to improve in the coming days following the revival of monsoon, he added.
