Modi meets Shivraj Patil, seeks Intelligence cadre

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JUNE 29 . The Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, today met the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and sought an Intelligence cadre at the national-level on the pattern of IAS and IPS.

"Keeping in view the activities of our neighbouring countries, we should have a dedicated cadre for intelligence in our country on the same lines as IAS and IPS," Mr. Modi told reporters after a half-an-hour meeting with the Home Minister.

Mr. Modi said the proposed intelligence cadre should be highly-qualified and well-trained and have a nationwide network.

Describing his meeting as a courtesy call, Mr. Modi said that he submitted a Rs. 400-crore plan for coastal development to guard Gujarat's 1600 km.-long coastline.

"This plan should be on the lines of the Border Development Plan so that national security is strengthened,'' he said.

Modi said Mr. Patil had accepted his invitation to visit Gujarat's coastal areas.
