Cyber cafe burgled, computers stolen

BANGALORE, JUNE 29. Unidentified persons on Monday broke into a cyber centre on 50 feet road, Hanumanthanagar, and decamped with five computers, printers and other equipment, all valued at Rs. 1 lakh. The Hanumanthanagar police are investigating.

Cash, jewellery and electronic goods, all estimated at about Rs. 1 lakh were stolen on June 27 from the house of K. Satyanarayana, a private factory employee, on 2nd cross, Mico Layout.

Mr. Sathyanarayana had gone with his family to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, when the theft took place. The culprits broke open the front door lock to gain access to the valuables, the police said.

Couple injured

Ravi Das Shroff and his wife, Deepti Shroff, were injured when the car in which they were travelling, hit a lamppost on Magadi Road in the Vijayanagar police station limits on Monday.

Mr. Shroff, an advocate, reportedly lost control over his car when it was hit by a van and rammed the lamp post. They have been admitted to a private hospital.

Gamblers held

The City Crime Branch police on Monday arrested Amar (39), Ramachary (38), Suresh (53), Sridhar (34) and Kantharaj (52) on charges of gambling. They were arrested following a raid on a gambling den on K.R. Shettypet Pappanna Lane in the Ulsoorgate police station limits. The police also seized Rs. 6,085 and articles used for gambling from them.

Arrested

The Cottonpet police arrested Ayaz Chowdhary (23) and Syed Noushad (30) on charges of stealing computers, television sets and other electronic goods from the Cottonpet and Wilson Garden police station limits.

The police also recovered eight computers, four colours TVs, three mobile phones, a photocopying machine and two DVD players, all valued at Rs. 3 lakh from the arrested persons.

The Jayanagar police on June 24 arrested a private showroom employee, Anil Kumar, a resident of Jayanagar 4th T Block, for allegedly taking away Rs. 1,19,894 from the showroom without depositing the amount in the bank as required.

He has been remanded in judicial custody till July 9.
