ERODE, JUNE 30. The district had received 1,07,570 applications for new ration cards till June 29, said the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, today. Addressing a press conference here, he said that more than 5,000 applications were received today, the last day for applying for new ration cards. An official in the rank of Deputy Collector would verify the applications. New ration cards would be given by August 1. Regarding supply of ration goods, he said that already instructions had been given to the District Supply Officer and other officials to monitor supply of kerosene. If anomalies like under-measurement were detected, severe action would be taken against the salesmen concerned. The Collector said that 1,213 applications were received for inclusion of names in the voters' list. Of this, 836 applications were received in Erode division, 186 in Gobichettipalayam division and 191 in Dharapuram division.
