CM confers with Medak MLAs, officials

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JUNE 30. The first in the series of district-wise review meetings intended to expedite the process of development was taken up by Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, here on Wednesday with MLAs, the Collector and senior officials of Medak district.

Dr. Reddy said irrigation should be given top priority in the district, since the main cause for backwardness of Telangana districts was the apathetic attitude in taking up irrigation projects in the region. The present Government was keen on giving priority for irrigation in the coming five years, he said.

The Chief Minister, who was apprised by officials that the Singur project in Medak was the only water source in the district with seven tmc out of the total 29.91 tmc being utilised for drinking purposes, said that Godavari waters should be utilised for the twin cities as soon as possible so that Singur water could be made available fully for Medak district.

Dr. Reddy also agreed to a suggestion from the MLAs for stabilisation of local tanks apart from taking up 48 new tanks over a period of four years and directed officials to finalise the drinking water proposals of the district. A committee comprising the Principal Secretary, Irrigation, Secretary, Municipal Administration and the district Collector would be constituted to examine how Manjeera water can be tapped fully for optimum utilisation in Medak. Tourism Minister, J. Geeta Reddy, Minority Welfare minister, Fareeduddin, Minor Irrigation minister, A. Chandrasekhar, Youth Services Minister, T.
