This Day That Age
K. Rosewall, Australia's 19-year-old Davis Cup player, reached the final of the men's singles in the Wimbledon lawn tennis championships in London on June 30 when he beat the top seed and American favourite, A. Trabert, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Rosewall will meet J. Drobny in the final. Drobny beat his old rival, B. Patty (U.S.), in a match lasting 105 minutes. The left-handed Drobny has been trying for the men's title at Wimbledon since 1938. He has reached the semi-final five times in the last six years and, on the two previous occasions he played in the final, was beaten by T. Schroeder (U.S.) and F.A. Sedgman (Australia). Rosewall is the youngest post-war finalist. His classic style opposed to Drobny's controlled power should produce a worthy final. Rosewall, seeded No.3, whose form was indifferent in the early stages of the championships, won in brilliant style in one of the best semi-finals seen for some time.
