Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JULY 1. Although the joint entrance test for admission to professional courses for the 2004-05 academic year in Pondicherry had been completed, there is confusion over preparation of the merit list by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC). An informed source told The Hindu here today that while calling for applications from candidates for professional courses, it was announced that 40 per cent aggregate marks in Mathematics, Physics and an optional subject would be the criterion for admission. But the Academic Council of Pondicherry University, to which all colleges in the Union Territory are affiliated, decided that the aggregate marks should be 50 per cent. It said the 40 per cent criterion was the yardstick for last year and the joint entrance test was conducted this year as per that system. A parent said there should have been proper coordination between CENTAC and the university as students submitted forms and appeared for the joint entrance test as per the information available to them earlier. The Pondicherry Government has only one engineering college under its control.
