Music
By Lakshmi B. Ghosh
FORDE, JULY 1. If the quietness of this picturesque Norwegian village does not reveal the excitement, blame it on good organisation skills. Forde is currently the stage for the coming together of different world cultures and musical traditions. Over 250 artistes from 25 countries, including India, will bond through the language of music at the annual Forde Folk Music Festival that opened today. Making the occasion special are not just the artistes who will each unveil an unknown part of the world's tradition here, but also the visit of Norway's Queen Sonja: she inaugurated the four-day fete. It was the first visit here in 25 years by a member of Norway's royal family. One of the largest and most awaited festivals of Norway, it has captivated hearts since 1990, when it was started. The Magic of the Caribbean Land is the theme this year. The carnival will see talented musicians who will present the best of their folk music. Performances are planned in 20 venues. Adding to the zing will be the Talent 2004 section.
