Basheer endowment lecture

KOZHIKODE, JULY 1. Keki N. Daruwala, poet, will deliver the Basheer Endowment Lecture at a programme to be organised under the aegis of the Bankmen's Club in association with the Kendra Sahitya Akademi at the Town Hall here on July 4.

At a press conference here today, the club president, M. Rajagopal and general secretary, P.C. John said that the function was being organised in memory of the novelist, Vaikkom Mohammed Basheer.

Dr. Daruwala will present the Basheer Award for the best college magazine, `Ithinartham nizhalukalennanu' to the Guruvayurappan College on the occasion. The award for the best editor goes to V.K. Jitesh, editor of the magazine.

A painting exhibition based on Basheer's characters by Krishna and Vaishnavi will be showcased at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery from July 4 to 7. Vinu Kuruvangad will present a solo play based on Basheer's short story `Neethi nyayam'. On July 5, the play, `Poovanpazham', will be enacted by the K.M.K. Smaraka Kalasamithi, Trikkaripur.
