Saket road robbery case cracked

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 1. A passion for bodybuilding led them to join gyms and an urge for excitement and thrill made them commit a robbery. The Special Staff of the South Delhi police have arrested four bodybuilders who along with their six accomplices allegedly conspired to rob a CMS Securites employee at Saket on Monday. One of the arrested accused had stood second in a bodybuilding competition held here last year.

It all happened around 1 p.m. on Monday when two young men riding a motorcycle intercepted Manoj, a field employee with CMS Securites on Press Enclave Road and stabbed him. They then snatched his bag containing Rs. 4.5 lakhs and vanished from the scene. Manoj, who sustained minor injuries, reported the matter to his employer, following which a case of robbery was registered at Malviya Nagar police station.

The case was handed over to the Special Staff. Acting on a tip-off that three persons suspected to be involved in the robbery would come to Humayunpur in South-West Delhi on June 29, the police laid a trap and arrested them.

They were identified as Manjit Singh, Naresh Kumar and Rishi. They allegedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery. At their instance, the police arrested their accomplice, Bhola, from Madangir, who later disclosed that he was adjudged second in a bodybuilding competition last year.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that 10 people - who became friends during their visit to gyms at Safdarjung Enclave and Kalkaji, -- were involved in the conspiracy.

At one such meeting a month ago, they allegedly planned to rob Manoj of the cash he collected from various business concerns.

The idea to target Manoj was mooted by Suresh, who works with a Nirula's outlet at Saket. Suresh allegedly told Bhola that Manoj used to collect cash from the outlets of Adidas, Nirula's and McDonald almost every day.
