BANGALORE, JULY 1. Thieves broke into the house of Siraj B. Khan in I Block, RT Nagar, and decamped with Rs. 35,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth about Rs. 4.5 lakhs, the police said. The theft was discovered on Thursday when Mr. Khan returned from a trip with family to Chikmagalur, the police added. The thieves broke open the back door to gain access to the house. Mr. Khan, a former government employee, had left the city on Tuesday. The RT Nagar Police are investigating. In another incident, jewellery worth about Rs. 2.5 lakhs was stolen from the house of N.S. Sharief, a businessman, in Jayanagar III Block. Mr. Sharief had left with his family on Tuesday to attend a relative's function. On his return on Wednesday, he found that the ground and first floors of his house had been broken into and the security guard was missing. The police said Mr. Sharief's guard had a key to the house. Investigation is on.
