Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 1 . The City today registered a maximum temperature of 36.0 degree Celsius and a minimum of 27.2 degree Celsius.

Stolen

About 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs.5,000 in cash were reportedly found stolen from the house of a farmer at Manbedimangalam under the Manachanallur limits on Wednesday.

The police said Muthusamy (52) had noticed the theft, upon his return from his farm-house at Kattadapatti. The Manachanallur police have registered a case.

Workshop

The Tamil Nadu Udal Uzhaippu Thozhilalar Sangam organised a special workshop for unorganised workers in the city recently.

Training was imparted to the participants in workers rights, legal protection, functioning as a movement, setting up units etc. The Inspector of Labour, M. Solaimuthu, explained the various programmes being implemented for the unorganised sector workers. The state organising secretary of the Sangam, V. Maheshwaran, presided over the workshop.

Plea on project

The Builders' Association of India has urged the Union Surface Transport and Shipping Minister, T. R. Baalu, to take steps for speeding up the execution of the four-way road project between Kanyakumari and Chennai.

In a communication to the Minister, the state chairman of the BAI, A. Puhazhendi, and its state secretary, A. Mohan also urged steps for reducing the price of the steel rods.

Anti-drug Day

The Tiruchi Multipurpose Social Service Society organised the World Anti-drug Abuse Day here recently. Psychiatrist from Saranya Hospital, Balasubramanian, the Deputy Mayor, M. Anbazhagan, the director of the TMSSS, M. John Peter, its joint director, Sahayaraj and others spoke.

Mettur level

Water level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 53.65 feet today. The inflow was 3900 cusecs and the discharge was 2000 cusecs.
