Power cuts galore in South, East Delhi

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 1. Large parts of South and East Delhi today experienced long hours of unscheduled power cuts. While the area discom, BSES, blamed the Delhi Transco for the power cuts, the latter charged the private company with load -shedding.

In a statement, the BSES claimed the unscheduled load-shedding at Nangloi, Nand Nagri, Seelampur, Jafferpur, Kashmiri Gate and adjoining areas was mainly due to the very low frequency in the Northern region and overloading of feeder at the Hamilton Road 22O Kv Kashmiri Gate Grid of the Transco.

The BSES said the power cuts in posh colonies of South Delhi including Defence Colony, South Extension, R. K. Puram, Green Park, Mathura Road and adjoining areas was due to the load-shedding carried out by Transco on account of system constraints. In Yamuna Vihar, Sonia Vihar and adjoining areas, the load-shedding was because of overloading of the power transformer at its WB-I Grid.

South Extension and adjoining areas also experienced another round of power cuts due to a local cable fault, the BSES said, while there was four-hour-long load-shedding at Bhagwati Garden because of the emergency shutdown on account of temporary fault.

A senior Transco official said load-shedding in South and East Delhi for about three hours was because of low frequency and some minor technical faults in the system. "It was only between 2-30 and 5-30 p.m. Any power cut besides this was because of local faults," he said.
