KOLLAM, JULY 2. The Chavara MLA, Shibu Baby John, today inaugurated the rainwater harvest project of the Quilon Social Service Society (QSSS) in Chavara block panchayat. A public function organised in this connection at Neendakara was presided over by the Kollam Bishop, Stanley Roman. The QSSS is the social service wing of the Kollam diocese. The QSSS secretary, Romans Antony, said that under the project, being implemented with financial support from the German Government, envisages constructing 169 tanks, costing Rs. 13,000 each, at the Chavara, Thekkumbhagam, Neendakara and Thevalakara grama panchayats under the Chavara block. Mr. Romans Antony said that under the Ithikara block panchayat, the QSSS had implemented a similar project at the Mylacaud, Kannanallur and Kottiyam areas with Central Government aid. At the Ochira block, the scheme was implemented with aid from Carithas-India and at the Chittumala block, the QSSS implemented the same scheme at the Perinad, Perayam and Kundara grama panchayats.
