Government drivers go on strike

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, JULY 2. Pondicherry Government drivers struck work yesterday, affecting the functioning of the various departments.

The drivers were demanding that all government vehicles be brought under insurance cover. Department vehicles are at present not covered under third party insurance. Consequently, in case of accidents, the drivers face legal action.

The drivers called upon the government to make the departments to which the drivers were attached party to any legal formalities whenever road accidents occurred, instead of making them face court cases as defendants in their individual capacity. The protesters later gathered at Bharathi Park and held a dharna.
