Madikeri
By Our Staff Correspondent
MADIKERI, JULY 2. The students of the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College here, affiliated to Mangalore University, who have been boycotting classes since June 28, returned to classes on Thursday, sources in the college said. Students had boycotted classes protesting against the hike in admission fees, including tuition fee, for various degree and post-graduate programmes. They had taken out a march on the main streets of the city on Wednesday and handed over a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner, Nagaraj, to be handed over to the State Government. Mr. Nagaraj had assured the students that he would hold talks with the Deputy Commissioner before handing over the memorandum to the Government. The Madikeri MLA, K.G. Bopaiah, and the Virajpet MLA, H.D. Basavaraj, who empathised with the cause of the students, met the college authorities on Wednesday. The MLAs also took up the case of refusal of admission to some students, who had failed to put in the required number of days of attendance in the previous year. They held discussions with the college principal, Govinda Naik, in that regard.
