DAVANGERE, JULY 2. "If the Government wants to remove corruption, considerably if not completely, it will give some more powers to the Lokayukta," said Venkatachala, Lokayukta, when asked if he was unhappy that he could not take action against officials guilty of corrupt practices. Talking to reporters at Harpanahalli here today, Mr. Venkatachala said that the previous Government had thought of making Lokayukta more powerful and he was optimistic that the present Government would implement it. The issue of giving more powers to the Lokayukta would be discussed in the coming Assembly session. Mr. Venkatachala said that the statement of the president of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Sippe Gowda, criticising the Lokayukta, was a bid to get "cheap popularity" among Government employees.
