Marginal rise

in humidity

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.8 degree Celsius on Friday. Humidity, which was 63 per cent in the morning increased marginally to 67 per cent in the evening.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday in some areas under the Krishnalanka section and K.G. Market section .

The affected areas are: Nehrunagar, Indira Colony, Dwarakanagar, Gowthaminagar, Tirumalarao Veedhi, Dintyalavari Veedhi, Srikaramatam Veedhi, Ramalayam Veedhi, High School road, Ranadeernagar, Rahiman Veedhi, Pachha Meda Bazar, Vallurivari Veedhi, Gunturuvari Veedhi, Old Police Station road, Chowdaripet, Metla Bazar, Rice Shops Bazar, Post Office Bazar, Satyamgari Hotel area, Kalpana Prints road, Brahmin Street, Arjun Street, Water Tank Street, Upparavagu, Nallamanduvari Street, Seshaiah Street, Potti Swami Street, Thavavari Street, Sivalayam Street, Four Taps centre and Ramalayam centre.

Commodity prices

Following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Friday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil-Rs. 52.50, palmolein oil - Rs. 42.25, sunflower oil - Rs. 51.50, tamarind (flower variety) - Rs. 31 to 35, tamarind (karipuli variety) - Rs. 40 to 45, chillies (AC) - Rs. 24 to 28, chillies (non-AC) - Rs. 14 to 22, rice (2716) - Rs. 13, rice (superfine) - Rs. 14 to 15, rice (samba masoori) - Rs. 15 to 16, black gram - Rs. 19 to 25, red gram - Rs. 25 to 31.

CPI plea to Government

The CPI State council has asked the Government to take over the management of the Sarada PG College to ensure that students do not lose out on their studies due to cancellation of recognition given to the college for various courses.

`Saturday night fever'

`Saturday night fever-stars on stage', a stage show to be performed by artistes from art forms including magic, mimicry, ventriloquism and fire dance will be held at the Tummalapalli Kala Kshetram on Saturday evening at 6.15 pm. Magicians like Gautam Parusuram, child magician Singari Satwik, dancer, Hemant, fire dancer Uday Bhaskar from Hyderabad will perform.
